Cashew Nut Factory Phuket Thailand

The Cashew Nut Factory is situated at the Sri Bhurapa Orchid on the outskirts of Phuket Town. The factory is a peanut lover's heaven, especially those who have a passion for the cashew nut. The factory is a unique attraction on Phuket Island and is ideal for those that want to experience something besides the normal beach tour.

Housed within lush grounds, with one of the focal points being a giant cashew nut statue, it is not uncommon for many to believe this is the attraction itself. Taking a step inside the well kept building is similar to that of entering an Aladdin's Cave for those who love nuts.

It is inside the factory where you will see the painstakingly complex and laborious process in which cashew nuts are harvested. The nut itself grows out of the cashew apple, which has poisonous oil inside of it. The factory's workers have to carefully extract the nut and remove the oil – which is then used for brake fluid in cars, and lastly the baking process of the nut's shell. It really is a fantastic experience, with your very own tour guide explaining all of the way.

Of course, a trip to the Sri Bhurapa Orchid would not be complete without a taster session. Chocolate covered, salted, sugared and honey-roasted cashew nuts are all available, even a cashew fruit drink made from the cashew apple's fruit. With the factory starting life in the 1970s, they have the process of harvesting and producing cashew nuts down to a tee, and seeing the wheels in motion give you an added respect for the tiny kidney-shaped nut.

Learning about the ins and outs of the cashew tree, such as the apple's juice being a preventative measure against gastric complaints and the nut casings are transformed to create a rubbery glue, visiting the factory is a more than worthwhile and interesting experience.

This unique experience will open the doors to another level of cashew nut consumption, and seeing the processes at first hand will provide you with a valuable insight into the production of this popular nut.
