Jazz concerts by Lua Hadar and Twist Jazz Band and James Morrison

Date: 6 October 2008

First Part: Lua Hadar and Twist Jazz Band from San Francisco
World jazz vocalist Lua Hadar and her band, Twist, perform a cosmopolitan mix of original, international and standard jazz tunes 'twisted' in a surprising and passionate fusion. She moves from stage to cabaret to jazz club with effervescent ease, switching vocal genres or languages just as easily. A native New Yorker, from a musical family, Lua Hadar has performed as an actor and singer all her life. When not touring, Lua Hadar and Twist are based in San Francisco, frequently appearing on the vibrant entertainment scene there and in Los Angeles, at venues such as Jazz at Pearl's, The Plush Room, and Hollywood's Gardenia and M-Bar Supper Clubs. Lua is very active in the San Francisco Bay Area as a performing arts consultant and mentor. She maintains a private Vocal Studio where she trains professional singers and actors.

Second Part: James Morrison and the Group from Australia
Presented by the Embassy of Australia

James Morrison is a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. A musician of startling originality, he is a major jazz figure in Australia (winning the Mo award as Australian Performer of the Year and the Ricky May Performer of the Year award). But, it is his impact on the intensely competitive international stage that is most impressive. Known predominantly as a trumpet player James is being recognised as one of the most accomplished multi-instrumentalists in the world today. The band will be accompanied by vocalist Emma Pask.
