Flight of the Gibbon Chiang Mai
From Lanna House you can experiences the top attraction of Thailand ‘Flight of the Gibbon’ a 2km tree top zip line ride through the Rain Forest canopy of Mae Kompong. Designed by David Allardice a New Zealand based architect with over 20 years of extreme sports tour experience and an unblemished safety record your jungle adventure will be in safe hands – a few screams from time to time but even my wife was exhilarated by this once in a life time challenge.
Just 55 minutes from Chaing Mai you will arrive at the Rain Forrest base camp where you will be introduced to the owners and their Sky Rangers who will be taking great care of you during your 3 hour adrenalin pumping heart pounding trip of a lifetime! During coffee (Grown locally) there’s a form to fill in – it’s not a ‘Will and last testament’ purely for those that can never behave telling them to follow instructions of the Sky Rangers!
Coffee over, a briefing on how to use the equipment you are fully booted and spurred, whizzed off by minibus to the start of one of the greatest adventures in Thailand. From zip lines to bridges abseiling down from the platforms high in the trees you will explore over 2kms of rainforest taking in the local lore, flora, fauna and geology that ensures your adventure is not only exciting but informative.
At five to ninety five, big, small, short or tall nearly everyone can be thrilled by “The Flight of the Gibbon” But it’s not all take, starting in July 2008 the owners began an intensive campaign replanting deforested areas of Mae Kampong village working with the National Forrest Service to create robust nurseries to sustain and increase reforestation year after year, your holiday baht also contributes to re-introduce the Gibbons, Macaques and other primeval wildlife back to their rightful home.
After three hours of breath taking adventure its back for a well earned lunch at the village that time forgot. A little relaxation then off to the Mae Kampong waterfalls and river trek for about an hour. On the way back home you will stop at Tharnthong Lodge for a snack and beverage of your choice to take in and enjoy this stunning natural area of magnificent beauty. A great day out and certainly not to be missed.
