Fisherman's Pier
For a real taste of local life, then head to the fisherman’s pier in Nathon.
Nathon is located on the north west of the island and is the main port for the large and small ferries that operate between the islands and the mainland. Here you will find all the long tail boats coming in early morning with their catches of fish to sell in the local markets.
As you stroll along the seafront in Nathon you will see many of the wives of the fishermen there selling the catch of the day. It’s full of strange and exotic creatures of the deep! Enjoy some freshly caught crab and shrimp and don’t forget to watch for the kite surfers that use this stretch of beach to practice!
Later in the day you will find that many stalls appear next to the pier in the car park area selling a huge array of tasty Thai treats. This is a great place to get a feel for how the locals spend their evenings and you can sample many dishes at ridiculously small prices. Don’t forget a nice cold glass of Thai beer to wash it all down as you watch the sunset over the sea!
