Why are Phuket Vacations so Desirable?
Phuket Vacations
This is a question many people ask when deciding where to take their well earned annual holiday. It is a simple question to answer in some aspects, but quite a mystery in others.
Phuket has become renowned for its high prices when compared to other beachside destinations in Thailand and Asia in general. The accommodation and transportation can be quite pricey and the local government has found it difficult to control the union that protects the taxi and tuk tuk drivers. The place that was once a laidback natural paradise has become seriously over-developed during the past decade and some say the island has lost some of its original charm.
All of the above sentiments are true, but Phuket has the x-factor, which can be hard to define at times, but some other destinations simply cannot compete with that. This is one reason why Phuket vacations are still so popular with holidaymakers. Another important aspect of Phuket’s success is its undoubtedly excellent infrastructure. While competing island getaways such as Koh Samui has problems dealing with rainfall and sewage matters, Phuket is already equipped to deal with these nuances. Phuket roads are very good, large and constructed so you cannot get lost. Shopping centers selling top brand names and specially imported European food items are plentiful.
Wherever you are situated on the island, within ten-minutes you can be within a lofty jungle bar or restaurant taking in the dramatic sea-views you only saw on TV or dreamed about. Places such as Pattaya (although it does have its own charm and positives) simply cannot compete with Phuket in the natural scenery stakes, even though holidaying in Pattaya is significantly lighter on the budget.
People have a clear vision in their minds’ eye when deciding to embark on Phuket vacations – sunshine, beaches, majestic sunsets, jungle laden mountains, some of the best dive locations in the world and a laidback mentality that the island still maintains. These reasons alone are more than enough to tip the scales in Phuket’s favour, and 8 times out of 10, they generally overcome its negatives.
Those booking Phuket vacations know they will receive the proverbial ‘best of both worlds’ – stunning natural beauty, solid infrastructure and a hedonistic nightlife that can only be topped by Pattaya and Bangkok. This is why the island is still Thailand’s and Asia’s leading beachside destination. Although things might not be what they used to be, the diverse and eclectic nature of Phuket caters for all – singles, families, backpackers and culture vultures.
Places such as Bangla Road cater for the party animals, the numerous temples and the majestic Big Buddha monument for the culture vultures, and picture postcard beaches such as Nai Harn, Bang Tao and Nai Yang for those seeking natural beauty. Those seeking out high-end Phuket vacations should look no further than Millionaire’s Mile at Surin, where Madonna already owns a palatial home. Top this off with owning its own airport and the island is within a short driving distance to Phang Nga and Krabi (arguably the most beautiful places in the world) and you have something for everyone.
